We always talk about the importance of not leaving your soil bare. In this pic it talks about the benefits of having cover crops. When the soil is bare, it begins to deteriorate. Moisture is evaporated from the soil, leaving nothing for life to thrive in the soil. When you cover the soil with cover crops, those cover crops will help to retain moisture in the soil. Their roots will break apart the soil and help it to stay aerated and broken up. The cover crops will also take carbon dioxide from the air, break it apart to make oxygen and carbon. They will store the carbon in the soil, and release the oxygen for us to breathe. These are important processes that just don’t happen with bare soil. Please remember to cover your soil!!
